"Police Interceptor" is a
general term used to identify vehicles used in
police service. This general designation
can cover a wide range of vehicles from the Ford
Mustang and Camaro to a Tahoe SUV or Ford F150
pickup. Generally, the Police Interceptor or
Police Pursuit Vehicle means a full sized four
door sedan. In recent years, front wheel
drive vehicles like the Chevrolet Impala or
Dodge Intrepid have seen some use by police
departments. For our purposes here at
Texas Interceptors, we have chosen to
focus on the rear wheel drive Ford Crown
Victoria and Chevrolet Caprice rear wheel drive
models which were discontinued after the 1996
model year.
The Police Interceptor Difference
Police Package vehicles are
designed with special features for strength,
durability and performance. Heavy-duty frames,
suspensions, transmissions and rear ends give
the cars a firm and stable ride. Auxiliary
transmission and oil coolers, and high-capacity
engine cooling help to keep temperatures down in
severe service. Special safety features are
there to protect you. Buying a used police
vehicle does have its' pitfalls. You might want
to read our advice and observations

Ford does not sell any
new Crown Victoria Police Interceptor models to
the general public. They can only sell to
the government agencies and municipalities.
Once the cars are no longer needed, they may be
sold as surplus to private individuals.
Chevrolet discontinued the
rear wheel drive Caprice in 1996.
